Of course we don't know when NX releases, but I can't seen Splatoon releasing earlier than holiday season 2017 anyway.
I think it's pretty much a given that the new 3d Mario will release as a launch title. Then NX will launch with a game that, based on the franchise history, will be among the highest rated games of the gen. I am really looking foward to the next 3d Mario.
