No, mario maker is.

Mario maker is everything that went right with the gamepad. An excellently polished game that utilizes the gamepad in a non-"forced" yet substantial way. A classic for anyone of any age. Intuitive for any newcomer, yet potentially tough enough for all the serious players. Refreshes the mario 2d line while adding nostalgic artstyles and gameplay from the titles we grew up with.

Splatoon is a good game. Nothing revolutionary (especially with regards to the gamepad), just a new ip that had its ups and downs

Splatoon is far more revolutionary game than Mario Maker, Mario Maker is just 2D Mario game where you can play levels you created or someone else, it's nothing revolutionary we already saw that in other games, for instance Little Big Planet.

Not to mention that is completely new, fresh and great idea in TPS online field, you dont have nothing similar like Splatoon. Splatoon has come out of nowhere and surprised us all and become a massive hit, its also completely new IP with own characters and world that become very popular with toys, music, mangas...we already had all that for Mario.

Well, can you give examples for your claim?

I hate the idea that mario maker is just little big planet. Let's forget the fact that there are different I game objects for the both of them, what makes mario maker what it is, is the gamepad. It gives the game an extra layer of intuitive yet fast controls needed to make level design easier. Without the gamepad, mario maker could not exist, whereas splatoon could. In a time when consumers are still questioning the benefits of the gamepad in a wii u, Mario maker stands out as a game that shows the ingeninuity and intuitiveness of the gamepad (only other game to do so is zombiu).

Likewise, a common trend I see here, is that people think splatoon's breakout success is a reason for it to be known as THE wii u game. The fact that it's a new ip and had good sales really shouldn't matter whatsoever. IMO THE wii u game is the game that utilizes the wii u's special features the most. Something that tells the consumer "you couldn't play this on other consoles." Similar to wii sports, Mario maker is it for me. I don't care if a game is a new ip or if it looks "fresh," I look for gameplay and how the game takes advantage of the console itself
