The NES and Wii sequels had similar drop offs to Majora's though. Liek you say though I think it comes down to being a Wii U exclusive or cross Gen ala TP. |
right, but Zelda II and Skyward Sword were extremely experimental and somewhat departures from their predecessors. They also appear to have had considerably less development time
I mentioned this in another post, but again, bear in mind that Skyward Sword was a late released and REQUIRED a motion plus controlller. Meaning to play Skyward, Wii users had to pick up a motion plus controller (so that's an added cost).
I just don't think there's a genuine pattern here. Twilight Princess and The Legend of Zelda are pretty much universally considered better games than Skyward Sword and Zelda II AND were released earlier... that's why they sold better
Zelda Wii U is a mainline Zelda game with tons of expectations and hype. if its a good game then it will sell well regardless of if its on the Wii U or NX. no Zelda mainline game with this much time invested as done poorly (again Majora's Mask and Zelda II were arguably somewhat rushed)
