I have been a regular visitor at VGChartz for quite some time now and I know that there’s much knowledge here about sales numbers in the video game industry. Therefore I have a question: What qualifies as good sales? I mean, surely a game that hits the one million mark is a big success, but what is good sales? Of course I know that different consoles brings differences in what are considered good sales, as well as the budget for different games, but at the same time there must be an average sales number games have to achieve to so that the developer and publisher not lose money on the project. For example I’ve heard Japanese game journalists talk about PSP games “hitting the important 200, 000 mark”. So… Does anyone know here how much a game must sell on each of the different current systems (XB360, PS3, Wii, DS & PSP), in general, so that the developer and publisher don’t lose money on their game?
