Nintendo games still sell great to their established audience, but that audience is smaller now than in previous generations.

That argument doesn't really hold weight, u said they are less mainstream than they were during the GBA+GC era, if that's true than how have most of their series not shown a decline from that generation?

I'm going to post the list of GBA+GC million selling Nintendo IP soon and the data shows that Nintendo games still sell equelly as well and in many cases more than they did back then. How can Nintendo games sell equal or better if they are less mainstream/played by less people?

20 million less people own a Wii U or 3DS compared to a GCN or GBA.

Also, key franchises like 3D Mario and Smash Bros have declined compared to the 6th gen.
