I personally don't think Nintendo has a choice in this matter if they want the NX to succeed. They need to get this thing out into the eyes of everyone. That includes the press who are far more likely to report and deliver news on the NX if it's a press conference. The Nintendo Directs appeal more to the Nintendo fans are hardcore gamers. News papers like the New York Times and Huffington Post will post that stuff in their papers and you'll see it on the news if it's mind blowing enough. The NX will go noticed with press and people will know about it. Unless Nintendo just wants Kotaku, IGN, Gamespot, and EB Games/Gamestop to advertise the NX in advance. They really don't have a choice unless they are so limited in supply that they only want to sell the system to Nintendo fans and hardcore gamers. Sure the digital events are fun for gamers, but from a business perspective. It doesn't make any sense. Directs should be left for the little news. I miss all very special magical moments that Nintendo provided to E3, like the Zelda orchestra, Miyamoto coming on stage with the master sword, Reggie kicking ass and taken names. Oh god the amazing times Nintendo had and the memes that followed. Except for 2008.... that never happened 0.0

You may be right here. It does seem that the live press conferences get more coverage from the mainstream media than the digital events do. Which is somewhat odd since it seems that the digital events get more buzz on social media. Anyway, they probably should do a live conference for the NX unveiling, even though I still think they could get their message across in a digital event.

I agree with you. I have noticed that the Directs send a shockwave across the internet in social media. It's quite interesting to see this contrast and I can see why Nintendo likes that method. But on the flip side. Most of the people in this crowd are at least aware of the NX in some shape or form. In reality, a lot of gamers I've talked to in person have absolutely no clue what the NX is and ask of me to tell them more about it.

I would also be very much a fan of the idea that teigaga proposed. Have a conference fully dedicated to the NX. It's concept, release date, software, why we should invest in it, and even some more details on the hardware itself this time around. A Nintendo Direct would be a great way to communicate with the current Wii U and 3DS crowd with games that would make them want to continue investing in that system along with the NX. The Wii U does not appeal to a lot of the people who does not currently own one, and Nintendo needs to try and capture this crowd with the NX without the distractions of the other platforms.
