While it's unfortunate that PM's status as a game as a scene came to a halt, it's kinda expected because it was already going at a slippery slope, being a well-known mod to the best-selling game of the franchise. I'm personally neutral when it comes to mods in gaming since I understand both sides. It's a harmless mod that made its own take on an already great game (regardless of opinions from competitive players), but I also understand Nintendo does not want to get involve in alterations of their IPs, which are their babies. They treat their IPs differently compared to Western studios like Bethesda, Ubi, etc. 

Hopefully, they'll fully embrace Smash as a competitive game like they're doing with Splatoon. I mean, from my POV (along with others), Smash 4 is probably the most balanced out of all the official games (especially for a 58 man roster). Sakurai and his team should be commended for tweaking most of the characters when they needed them. Now, it's not all about Diddy Kong's "Hoo-Haa!" or countless Sheik dittos.

Again back to my original point (with the first post), if Nintendo did not interfere with Smash's tournament scene, PM would still very much be alive (which bear in mind, the PMDev team does not make a single cent for their hard work directly from selling the mod. In fact, this helps Nintendo drive more sales for Brawl due to anti-piracy policy for PM, and it's the main reason why I bought Brawl). But now the community is in ruins, dying as we speak, making those hundred-thousands of hours of development and practicing to near-waste.

This is pathetic in the fact that Nintendo had over a DECADE to take action with the competitive scene, and they're doing a garbage job doing anything. They've seen Melee on its near death-bed when they made a sequel designed to be purposely anti-competitive. They shown and still show ignorance about the community tournament scene as they've proven with Tournament Mode online and among others. At least Capcom didn't actively tried to destroy their scene, and certainly didn't take over a decade to actually support it. Seeing how much support Splatoon is getting competitively is pretty much like a backstab on the Smash community's back, where a. no patch notes, b. no pot bonuses support, and c. intending to design Smash4 to be overly defensive instead of taking it to Melee (mostly) spectator-friendly routes. In fact, I don't care if they were to not come in at all. They can try to shut down Genesis 3 for all they dare, it'll end up just like EVO 2013 where there was a public outlash that would force Nintendo to back down with an even stronger Smash scene than ever before.

I guess where I'm going with this post is this: screw off Nintendo. If you're going to "sponsor" us, actually SUPPORT US. They clearly know how to, but they just love toying with the Smash community that's been through so much burden. I don't want people looking at "wow great company Nintendo embracing their competitive scene!" when really, they do a garbage job doing so. I see them doing it more for public attention and recognition moreso than actually helping the scene. 

 

Everyone knew the deal with PM. The modders aren't angry, so excuse me if I'm not either.

And because Nintendo didn't show support for nearly a decade, we shouldn't show them support when they finally do take steps to support competitive Smash? Seems like you are trying to destroy a community that you love, lol. If Nintendo did back it, or fund/arrange events (ect) do you know how big it could actually get?

Nintendo wasn't there for us when this thing started, and we had to make it a thing ourselves. I know and I get it. They're going to stick a toe of support in when we could use them diving in head first, I get that too. Sometimes though, you just gotta let shit go its natural course, man.
