Listen. A game sale is a game sale is a game sale...is a game sale.

They counted Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario World and a whole host of packed in games on a whole host of other systems on the charts whether packed in at launch or later in system's life.

These are just whines from people who don't like Wii's success.

Hot Shots Golf with PS3 should be just as much counted as Wii Sports for Wii.

Ask yourself this. Is it the system selling the game or the game selling the system? Or a bit of both?

Yes always put a footnote that game was packed in if so but remember that pack-in must make the system sell more so that DOES speak to the power of the game.

This is why Wii Sports was separate in Japan. To show people it COULD sell on its own and still move systems.

They made it convenient for us that's all. You should be happy. We get it all right out of the box.

Also Americans are curmudgeons with new things so it had to be done to make sure people didn't miss out on the quality experience. I wish it didn't have to be that way but that's just how we are over here.

But then when you see separate Wii Play staying in Top Ten month after month you know the Wii series IS moving the system and have their own legitimate merit.

To those who say packed-in controller I submit this: Guitar Hero, Dance Dance Revolution, Eyetoy games, games that come with racing/fishing peripherals.

Makes no never mind what's packed in, the stuff is moving.

ALWAYS count Wii Sports and any pack-in, it is how it was always was done and always SHOULD be done.

Ignore the whiners.

ok, then request to put hexic up on the list every month.

I agree that wiisports would sell on its on, but no one know how much and it probably wouldn't sell 1:1 with hardware.

wiiplay hasn't sold 1:1 and it gives you a wiimote!

wiiplay is a packin as well, its a wiimote and then for 10 dollars more you get a game. I know for a long time getting a wiimote was very difficult (is it still?) and people preordered/bought wiiplay to get the extra controller. Just like arcade games, wiiplay is really only 10 dollars... so while yes it should be counted... it does not necessarily tell us how well wiisports/wiiplay would sell on its own in the US.

The problem is this:

the wii will sell 90k units... and so wiisports get 90k

wii total software will be 360k including wiisports... but wiisports should be omitted when calculating an attachrate.

So instead of a 4:1 attach rate for the week, it should be ( 360k - 90k ) / 90k = 3:1 attachrate - because attachrate should reflect the software purchases that were made separately. This is why the NPD doesn't count wiisports. Its also why AVS nerds don't track free HD-DVD or Bluray packins (such as the 5 free HD-DVDs, taledega nights, or casino royale)

The problem with YOUR example is that it is biased, in the opposite direction. Bias for fans want to count Wii sports as a 1:1 in attach ratio. Bias on other fans want to count Wii Sports as a 0:1 attach when you know damn well, (and you have Japan to help you see) that Wii sports would definitely sell at least decently even if it werent a packin. You would have to give at least a .5 or .4 attach in place of the 1:1 that you are removing to be fair. But you arent, and thats what makes your POV just as ridiculous as the people you are arguing against.
