No of course I don't know if royalty cheques up in flames. I've openly stated I've never been a Square Enix employee, much less someone that worked on this title, and those guys and girls would be the only people that would know . However I have worked for many major development studios, and independant studios that have had contracts with major publihers. Based on my experience its entirely possible they will not recieve any royalties based on sales so far.

For example in most cases, there is a threshold of revenue a game must generate before royalties are dispursed to the development team. In some cases it's be bases on hard sales numbers (like the game must sell say, 1.4 million copies before royalties begin to be earn). There are also instances based on total revenue so if your game comes out for $60, and then 3 weeks later is $40 on a Black Friday sale, then the total revenue for that game in the first month could be significantly lower than if the game sold at $60 for the entire month. If the game hasn't brought in revenue beyond that threshold, developers don't see a dime. After that, royalties are typically based off of a certain percentage of revenue generated beyond that point that could increase or decease with additional sales. With every studio I've worked with and with every publisher I've worked with, these policies have been different. Sometimes they can differ even within the same published based on budget and expected game revenue.

So what I was getting at, for a title of this magnitude, with the development and marketing budget, it's entirely possible that sales of 1 million in the first two months is not enough for the developers to recieve a dime, and even if they do, the royalties they recieve could be a quarter to a third of what they would have recieved had the game sold 2 million copies. Do I know that's the case? Absolutely not, but I wouldn't be in the least surprised if the development team is totally gutted at sales so far.

Sooooo you don't no what you're talking about? You're guessing. Stop it

Well the problem is, I make console video games for a living. So my "guesses" are more of an educated, informed opinion based on my first hand experiences. If you just want to brush that off as a "guess" than literally anyone's informed opinion must be completely irrelevant to you.

Investigators piecing together a murder charge based on their examination of the evidence? They don't know what they're talking about. They're guessing.
Surgeon diagnoses you with  a life-threatening condition that can only be stopped with immediate surgery? They don't know what they're talking about. They're guessing.
Your basement is flooding and the plumber says its likely an issue with your weeping tile? They don't know what they're talking about. They're guessing.

Life must be hard for you never respecting the expertise of others.
