Now unless i missed something, this whole back and forth started from a photo that was taken in Wuhan, 800km from Chengdu, several years ago ("Wuhan was full of houses like this when I was there a few years ago"), yet IT became the focus of discussion.

I live right next to Wuhan and most people didn't even feel the earthquake here yesterday. There are no gaping holes in the ground here.

Comparing China to Japan (or America) in regards to building quality is ridiculous. Japan is one of the richest most technologically advanced societies on earth and the whole country is built on a massive fault line meaning they get >1000 quakes a year. China is a DEVELOPING country and communist party or not it would be stupid to expect them to uphold the same standards, especially considering earthquakes are relatively uncommon here.
