There will be much better TVs by then. I would think the PS5 and Xbox 2 could do 4k by then, although I think we will see those consoles in 2020.

Much better? How so? Bigger models might be cheaper, but what if you don't want to buy a $800 tv now and again in 2018? Not many people are going to want to do that.

 

Bigger, higher resolution, less lag, OLED TV's being standard, entirely new technology being implemented, 8K TVs etc. The possibilities are endless.

If you don't want to spend $800 every few years for an awesome gaming TV, that fine, there might be a compromise in image quality compared to the TV's in the next few years but there's no way around that.
