Currently the titles of each forum have the word "discussion" in them. A "discussion" is at its best when both sides of an issue are represented. With the creation of user-created forums, you will essentially kill-off the general population forums as people form cliques to isolate themselves from oposing factions. While this may appear beneficial since it eliminates "trolls," it also prevents you from being confronted with a diferent view of reality which in turn will lead to group-think.
There already exists mechanisms to avoid people who greatly interfere with the normal flow of videogame and off-topic "discussions" and those are mod warnings, bannings and (my personal favorite) scrolling away from the posts by people who have through their post history proven to have opinions not worth taking the time to read. Perhaps the addition of a "block posts from this user" button would apease the people who are too lazy to mentally ignore a poster.
What about new users when all of the regular users are tucked away in their private discussion cocoons? Will they all wallow together in Shite (I perfer the Irish way of saying s*it) until they get noticed by one of the "cool groups"? Will the "cool group" members even go to the general population forums to have a chance to meet the new users?
So you are willing to jeopardize one of the great gaming forums and for what? So people can post porn? There are better porn forums out there. So people can talk about mature subjects? Try the AARP's forums. So that you can be shielded from opposing factions? Join the official forum for your system.
I thought I left behind the world of cliques when I graduated from high school.
