Developers make games to make money. They couldn't care less about feminism or being PC, as that doesn't translate to sales.
The ND developers even had to fight to put Ellie on the cover instead of (only) Joel. In other words, they knew that that would probably lead to fewer sales. You think companies would throw away money just for the feminists to like them? Give me a break.
This is by no means a trend. Just a person being uncomfortable playing as a female character (for whatever reasons).
