There is no contradiction. The statement is "Nintendo will make NX available by 2016's year-end shopping season" and the shopping season is the holidays. There is no other valid interpretation. The thing is that the analyst switches from the above calendar terminology to fiscal years later on. "17/3" means fiscal year 2017, quarter three. That's the same timeframe as in the beginning of the article, October-December 2016. There is no March mentioned in regards to the NX launch. In fiscal year terms, Nintendo is currently in 16/4. Fiscal year 2016, quarter four; covers the period January-March 2016. 17/3 is three quarters later, October-December 2016. 17/3 and others do not stand for calendar year/month, they stand for fiscal year/quarter. |
OK, I think that we are both wrong...although I'm not exactly sure. The fiscal year in the United States for 2016 starts in October of 2015 and goes through December, so in the US that would be Q1. Everywhere else, the fiscal year is only a few months so this really makes no sense whatsoever. I still think they are referring to the month and year, but who knows.
