If this is the case, the system would still not have been out a full year.

But let's just assume he was talking about 5 months after release (March 2017) to start tracking the NX's profitability to March 2018, that seems like a really strange time to do that. The release 5 months (especially during the holidays) would be a better glimpse of how desirable a console is than a consoles 6 months until the first price drop. That is when the stride of new consoles tend to significantly slow down.

I can force this to make sense, but in all honesty it really doesn't.

*edit* Oh, and that's only AFTER we ignore he specifically was quoted as saying releasing 17/3.

You are mixing real years with fiscal years. Releasing 17/3 means launching in the 3rd quarter of the 2017 fiscal year, and that is between October and December of 2016.

He then says "We think the NX will start to boost operating profits in 18/3" that means that until one year after launch, so by Christmas 2017, we'll start seeing how NX boosts Nintendo profits.

Sure, but then the dates he are giving are off. He could just as easily said we will be watching it from christmas 2016 to 2017. What he was quoted as saying doesn't match those dates.I understand fiscal years, but if you are tracking outside of the fiscal year (being the launch nor the year anniversary are happining in March) you may just want to give actual dates of sampling.

But there is when he being an analyst makes sense. He's not saying that for us but for investors and other companies that make decisions based on the quaterly results.
