My biggest fear! I find it too risky releasing in the middle of xboxone and ps4 lifetime, probably when sales for both will peak ( as usually in the third year, especially after price drops), and from gameline aspects it's the best year for both.
People's interest will be strictly attached to 8th gen consoles, what would this mean for the NX... While 2017 release can be near to xbox one and ps4 successors, mainly for xbox one! 2017 release of nx could force sony and especially ms to release their new consoles soon after NX 2018/19 (if nx is something that will create a ''storm'' of course) starting from scratch and giving to Nintendo the competitive edge...
Althougth, xbox one might not be forced by NX to get a successor earlier, but due to ps4 dominance, ms may want to pull the rug from under sony's feet by releasing xboxone successor earlier than expected, which would probably be more powerful than ps4, as a result stealing its thunder but hereupon sony could answer with ps5... xbox/ps2 -> 360/ps3 situation repeatition m, schedule-wise... (As for NX, I don't really doubt that 2016 release could probably succeed, I just express my anxiety.)
However, I think something else worries me more, the majority of wii u owners reaction...
Replacing wii u in its 4th year, can infuriate those Nintendo fans who acquired a wii u! Most of Nintendo fans are emotional people (of course there is a porportion of Nintendo fans that wanted all along a short death for the wii u, by dreaming that NX will fix everything that was wrong with the wii u, or those that love wii u but they await the greatness that nx may introduce, so the don't care for wii u close of day ), who commonly bond with their consoles! A 2016 wii u replacement could be seemed to soon! How else, when you're used to almost six years lifetime for Nintendo consoles, fans could feel like their favorite company cares fore thei wallet not them, even though, Nintendo is an enterprise not a charity institution someone may say...
Nintendo has already done bad moves this gen, for which its fans 3ds/wii u owners are fretting about (like not providing them what they exactly desire or causing long game draughts), they can't afford to do more mistakes, risking losing even those who bought wii u and gave them generously their money!
The aim is to bring back those fans (gamecube/n64) (not pulling a wii, which was out of ordinary for Nintendo) that would like to buy wii u but it wasn't an attractive product for them and some settled for just 3DS ( tablet controller-lets not forget that xboxone was selling like wii u before dropping kinect-being overpriced which is a huge problem when this console is for accompanying another console, and not the first choice for the most of the consumers cycle and not in the slightest third party support)!
They have the leeway to give one more year to wii u, in order, wii u owners to take more lightly its inglorious funeral! Nintendo's making profit (2016 is also the start year for the mobile games venture and theme parks..) ! They're not urged to replace wii u, at least profits-wise, hardware sales are mediocre (but flat and decent) in general and give bad publicity, as gaming audience focus on sales and ignore profits.
Anyway, this is the point of my aspect: If after all nx thing doesn't work , you risk to lose even this extremely loyal audience that dared and purchased the wii u (as I aforesaid, the aim is to retrieve those who would jump in wii u but eventually they didn't, and not even losing the ones that stayed faithful), which in the end was profitable?
(All this in case NX is just a replacement for the wii u/or if it's for both handheld and home consoles, if wii u getting replaced in 2016 by the home part)
P.s If nx it's about to replace wii u in 2016, I hope there was enough time for Nintendo to prepare enticing and big software guns for its launch... And I don't mind if nx-> wii u not in 2017 as I consider, but 2016 instead, a simple defeat. Since, my analysis makes me think 2017 release, it's not a desire/idealistic hope, and being wrong eventually, leading me to feel disenchantment or rage...
