3DS has done well. But struggled and still struggles due to lack of games and advertising those games in the West.

 

If your system can't competently run modern third party games at reasonable equity with other consoles of the day -- then it's gimped. 

Imagine the Super NES couldn't run games like Street Fighter 2 or Final Fantasy VI because the chipset was just a moderate upgrade on the NES. 

What you said doesn't describe wii u at all.
