I like how this timed exclusive deal that didn't quite work out (mostly due to poor planning and launch execution by M$ / SE) has apparently either killed or irreparably damaged the TR brand in the eyes of many gamers, yet nearly a decade and a half of mediocre sequels, movie tie-ins and remakes didn't.

Those things DID damage the original Tomb Raider series. It's one of the reasons why they went this new route to begin with. That doesn't negate the real possibility that these recent events have made a permanent mark on this rebooted version of the franchise. I'm one of those who hopes that it hasn't, but wouldn't be shocked if it has.

Yes they damaged the TR brand, but did not kill it or irreparably damage its image, which is why I think you and alot of other folks are overreacting here in regards to the aftermath of the "timed exclusive" M$ deal.

First of all, it's not like ROTTR is a poor or even mediocre / underwhelming game in terms of its quality & gameplay...  it delivered on all fronts according to the vast majority of reviews and gamers who actually played the game, so this will help not hinder the title over the long run.

Secondly, the game has still yet to hit the PC and PS4, arguably where the biggest concentration of the franchise's core audience is.  The game should have decent legs in sales throughout 2016 due to its PC release, and should find more success by the time it finally hits PS4 due to the larger install base and the inevitable "remastered / GOTY" re-release next holiday season.

My predition is that in 2-3 years we'll have a third installment of the modern TR series across all major platforms (PS4, X1 and PC) that is equal to its predecessors in terms of quality, and this will all be water under the bridge by that time.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
