Like I said in the OP, as long as the install base is big enough to support strong sales.
The decline from DS Pokemon sales is actually minimal, according to Nintendo's official shipments Pokemon D/P sold 17.~ million and B/W sold 15.~ million, X/Y were over 14 million at the last update and still growing. That's with being on a device with close to 100 million less units sold.
When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.
