If this stuff about Ren's lightsaber is true, I do hope they go into it in the next movie. Its a detail I'm okay with them leaving out in this movie, but it ought to be addressed in the sequel, at least off handedly.

Well, Plagueis being alive doesn't mean Sidious was manipulated at all. It could just mean that Sidious was wrong about him not being able to cheat death himself.
I mean, I honestly can't even think of how or why Plagueis would even need to be involved in Sidious' plot. Seems more likely Plagueis survived, fled to the unknown regions, and saw an opportunity when his old apprentice was killed and the Sith were effectively wiped out.
