To be honest, there were at least 3 or 4 scenes about how powerful Chewie's bow caster is. Han Solo kills like 5 guys with 1 shot in one scene.
For Ren to not pop like a balloon when hit, means that his armor is very strong or he managed to lower the impact with the force. Either way, to be able to fight after being hit is incredible.
