Yes, but if that larger base had fewer "core" gamers than the Gamecube, sales of games like Zelda and Resident Evil would have decreased, not increased.

I respectfully disagree. You're implying that only gaming enthusiasts purchase Zelda or Resident Evil games, which I believe, especially in the case of the Wii, is inaccurate.

Maybe not only gaming enthusiasts, but I suspect only a very small proportion of the people who bought these games were from the blue ocean crowd. I can't see many people who bought the system for Wii Fit buying an ultraviolent zombie shooter. I suppose we'll just have to agree to disagree.

People here are ignorant! Last gen was like two gens in one many of the so called hardcore gamers bought wii in droves and mid way threw this long generation (2005-2012) they bought a HD console like ps3/360. Ever system has casual gamers this notion that wii was 90% casual is bullshit! Ps3 had a turn around in the second half of the gen and alot of that had to do with a double dip for some that gen.And big numbers for games like wii fit wasn't all casuals either hardcore gamers bought it too for a thing called a new experience!?!?! Myself and friends I know have bought the balance board and had fun with it and were not casual gamers.
