Sega brought Sonic down, not Nintendo. I can somewhat understand the Genesis does what Nintendon't "Sonic represents everything that Nintendo is not" argrement, but do you really see Sony or Microsoft pushing a new Sonic game? Especially given the perceived value of the franchise now? Would your average "hardcore" gamer even buy a Sonic game these days?? If the game has been in development for a while and is "ambitious", then I seriously doubt they would be satisfied with ~2M across the PS4/XB1. They'll do better numbers if it launches on NX (and 3DS/Wii U). If you want Sega to divorce Nintendo then what do you think they should do with Sonic, because simply appearing on the XB1 and PS4 won't pull the franchise out of the toilet. |
The key to pulling it out is by releasing a revolutionary TRUE Sonic 4 which is worthy of the name Sonic The Hedgehog. Like I said, Sonic use to stand for something. He was the punk rock to Mario's Frampton. Sega needs to give him that identity back some how and make him appear "cool" again. I just don't see how that's possible being a Wii-U exclusive.
