Why do people think that Nintendo could go or should go third-party?

Wii U has nothing but Nintendo games and now they will stop supporting the Wii U altogether. Just like they stopped supporting the Wii once the novelty wore off and all they had was inferior hardware with goofy controllers.

Yes, PS4 has only few exclusive games while big majority are multiplats games that can be played on X1 or PC, on Wii U almost every game that is good is exclusive.
