Why do people think that Nintendo could go or should go third-party?

They make games, only logical to sale on as big a user base as possible. They them selves can no longer build a user base big enough to make it worth wile.

They are literally leaving billions at the table. Selling on a bigger user base also increases their franchises worth and its merchandising. Plus their hardware is always weak, that that out of the equation and the games will be better.

 

Nintendo would lose hardware/accessory revenue, lose 3rd party royalties and have to pay royalties to Sony/Microsoft which means their games would need to sell much higher and I'm not sure if many Nintendo franchises would see a huge increase in sales by being on PS/XB anyway. Most Nintendo games are either family/kid/casual friendly titles (this audience isn't really known to be on PS/XB) or rather niche titles which sell to a small but dedicated fanbase.

 So no house hold with kids own PS or Xbox, who are you kidding.  Their sales woudld easily skyrocket going 3rd party, dont even dare bs that sales might not increase much going from the wiiu to a 200 MILLION strong user base.  

Unelss you all doubt nintendo software quality, seems many dont think they can sale to any one but hardcore ninty fans.   

 

Did Nintendo franchises popularity skyrocket on Wii? 3D Mario, 2D Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, Donkey Kong, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Paper Mario, Punch-Out, Excite, Sin & Punishment, Battalion Wars, Mario Sports, etc all had very modest boosts over NES/SNES/N64/GC sales despite having 40-80 million extra sales. The only title that saw truly massive growth over previous installments was Mario Kart.
