Uhhhh, Skies of Arcadia came out way after FF7, 8, and 9. Therefore CG cutscenes were old news by the time the game released. The lack of CG probably had more to do with the fact that the Dreamcast was such a graphical powerhouse at the time that the directors of SoA never felt the need to use CG to make the game look impressive. The in-game graphics were impressive on their own.

As for the original topic, if it's true I would definitely have to get a Wii. The thing is, as others have said, Sega has already built a great engine for SoA that's being used in Valkyria Chronicles for the PS3. The team that made Valkyria Chronicles are already intimately familiar with the PS3. Why would they just abandon all that knowledge and capital investment to make a Wii exclusive?

Erm, you realize that Valkyria Chronicles and Skies of Arcadia are two completely different kinds of games right?

O Rly? Don't worry, I totally understand the difference between a strategy RPG and a standard JRPG. But last time I checked the genre of a game doesn't necessarily prevent it from using the same engine as a game in another genre. Case in point: Unreal Engine 3. Originally, it was designed with mostly FPS in mind. However, Epic built a flexible enough engine to be used for games like Lost Odyssey and Fatal Inertia. Now those games are FAR more different from each other than Valkyria Chronicles and Skies of Arcadia.

Obviously the Valkyria engine probably isn't that flexible. However, the difference between VC and SoA isn't as big from a development standpoint as you seem to believe. Also, if you've been paying attention to previews of VC you'll see that Sega has been really driving home to the media that the game is using the CANVAS engine. The engine has become an entity in itself suggesting that it would be used for other games. Obviously none of those other games have to be Skies of Arcadia, but let's not forget the cameo appearances of Vyse and Aika in Valkyria Chronicles. It could just be fan service, or it could be a clever way to bring Skies of Arcadia back in the limelight for PS3 fans before an announcement is made.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.
