Was the Splatoon bundle a "limited edition"? If they said it was limited in availability, they're not really able to produce anymore regardless, though that never stopped companies doing that in Western Markets.
Maybe it's to do with margins? They were shifting old inventory so it was worth bunding software free, but now that they've cleared it out it'd create a bigger loss on the balance sheet? (remember they offset losses already to early Wii U hardware in a write down).
RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.
