Appealing only to the fans who will buy it anyway is foolish though, that only limits your potential audience. There are enough Zelda fans to support Wind Waker/Skyward Sword levels of sales. To reach Twilight Princess levels, you need to reach beyond just the established fanbase.

No, foolish is to make something that people actually buy your product dont want, that would be really foolish. Also Zelda U art style is far more appealing than WW/SS and almost everybody like it, reception about art style and graphics Zelda U were great.

Again, didn't had that sales because of art style and more dark look.

Hardcore fans will buy it regardless of its art style. But mainstream gamers prefer "serious" graphics to cartoon graphics, as you have already admitted and as the weekly sales charts prove. Appealing only to a fanbase that can support 4-5 million sales is foolish when you can reach wider and sell better.

Your problem is that you are only thinking of what you want, rather than  what the market wants, which is Nintendo's problem also.
