The Wiimote gets too much hate. Look no further than RE4 for proper use of the Wiimote: the pointer functionality made for great aiming and a quick flick of it would bring out Leon's knife which would automatically home in on a target if it was close enough.
Sadly, too many devs opted for the "make everything motion-oriented" approach to draw in casuals.
