I remember so much hype for Sony's console that I'm a little surprised to learn it got off to a slow start...

I remember the game that convinced me to get a Playstation was final fantasy tactics. That's a franchise that really doesn't even register as an afterthought when I pick consoles today, but I'd grown up thinking Final Fantasy was synonymous with nintendo and loving it, and when I heard they were headed to Sony I knew I'd have to get the playstation as well. Tactics and the VII-IX run occupied a great deal of my time through that stretch.

To be honest, to this day I still don't like the ps1 or ps2 consoles (they all stopped working, the ps1 more than once), but they had games that made ignoring them an impossibility. The PS3 original model, though, is one of my favorites... Best backwards compatibility I've ever encountered, built like a tank, great operating system... I definitely think that was superior to the ps1, ps2, or ps4, but it was just too darn expensive to remain competitive.
