I don't see it simply because I don't see Avatar as culturally relevant today. Star Wars, Toy Story, and Jurassic Park were films people came back to time and again. Avatar was this event that got everyone's attention, but a year later it faded away. When was the last time you heard someone quote or reference it? Either in day to day or general pop culture? Do you expect long wait lines and midnight showings to break records?
I don't doubt it will do fine, but I struggle to see it match the original's box office gross.
