They also dropped the price to $21.95 and it was sold for as low as $9.95 for a time. Were the majority of the sales before or after they slashed the price by nearly 50% (as it was 39.95 to begin with)?

Probably though I can't be 100% sure, but it was the same for the previous games. TTYD becoming a Player's Choice and SPM becoming a Nintendo Select, selling for the same $20. I'm sure they had further limited time deals aswell, if not through Nintendo then by retailers.

Sticker Star's price dropped dramatically within a few months, though. By summer of 2013, it was already $21.95, which is unusual for a Nintendo game. By the holidays of 2013, Gamestop (and a few other retailers) was selling it for $9.95 and the price went back up to $21.95 MSRP afterwards. Super Paper Mario took five years to reach $29.99/$19.99 for Nintendo Selects. Ah well.
