What's with all the people saying it'll easily pass 3D World, but not Smash?

Nintendo's official shipment numbers as of September 30, 2015:
SM3DW: 4.47 million
SSB4: 4.03 million

During that quarter, 3D World sold 170,000 and Smash sold 200,000. Not only is 3D World ahead of Smash, but they're almost selling at the same rate. It's pretty premature to say that Smash is the stretch goal here.

You also have to account for the fact that 3DW has another year on Smash and that the quarter you listed is an off quarter where buyers are picking up predominantly 3DW bundles (before the Smash + Splat bundle hit and kicked both a notch up in sales). The fact that Smash is lower than 3DW currently according to shipments is not relevant to the fact that it will end up higher in final sales.

OT: The Smash Splat bundle almost ensures that Splat can't outdo Smash overall. Many sales will tie together and cancel out in that regard. Could it beat 3DW? I mean it's been killing it so if it does it has to do so by next year, because they're gonna have Splat2n right around launch for the NX, which will surely kill the original game when it hits.
