I really doubt that Code Name: S.T.E.A.M would sell 1m in Japan only if they advertise it properly. :)

I mean the games being good and appealing means a lot too. But look at Bayo 2 and look at Splatoon. The good marketing made a huge difference.
|
Buy-Bayo-2-get-Bayo-1-free was bad marketing?
|
Dude, do you even know what marketing is?
Marketing is letting people know your product exists and that's it's good.
What's the point on giving out Bayonetta 1 for free, if nobody knows that?
Splatoon got several TV commercials, demo stations on several malls and even huge events with famous people attending them.
THIS is marketing. And that's why Splatoon Splatoon is selling so well.
|
Splatoon is selling on first place because it's great game and has mass appeal similar to Mario Kart and Smash Bros, not just because marketing.
|
If that was true, then why Nintendo spent millions and millions on marketing the game?
This is part of the sucess of Splatoon, but with no marketing, it's very hard for a game to sell as well as Splatoon is selling.
|
Offcourse that game will sell better and more people will be aware of game with great marketing, but my point is that Bayonetta for instance even with strong marketing like Splatoon wouldn't sell much better because it's very specific genre of game that doesn't have mass appealing, while Splatoon have mass appeal very similar to Mario Kart and Smash Bros. and Nintendo is very aware of that, thats why they didnt push too much Bayonetta but they pushed Splatoon and they made great new IP that will be on same level of Mario Kart and Smash Bros.
