He can do something else, but there will still be another Smash. It makes Nintendo too much money, so yes they need it every gen. I'm worried about Smash 5 though, since next gen could start as early as next year, and they'll only have just finished Smash 4 DLC, so Smash 5 is probably gonna release pretty late into the NX's life, hopefully not too late.
