Having also worked in IT, I would agree PSUs are usually the first thing to fail.

I would put ports ahead of Video Cards.  They rarely fail, but sometimes a pin gets bent or something.  Or in Laptops the connection to the external power.

If a hard drive doesn't fail in the first 3 months, they are usually good for years.

And the only memory I have ever had fail was user error - not discharging properly before someone touched it.  Now sometimes the heat/cool cycle cause them to get a little lose, but never had one actually fail.

PSU are also one of the few things we didn't even try to fix.  We just replaced them.

Note: My 2010 PC is on it's second power supply.





 

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
