with exception of the Wii phenom Nintendo consoles have never done well at all in Europe. Even the NES and SNES did not make a huge splash in Europe. Europe did not take to console gaming until PS1. So where as many people in the US look back fondly at the NES/SNES as what got them into gaming in Europe they look at Playstation that way. Also it helps Sony has remained consistent from PS1 to PS4 with the type of content they push.
