The majority of people who think that way don't have the patience to even play a game if they have to wait more than 10 seconds until action hits

It also has to do with the game itself. There are a lot of generic turn-based games out there who made it really boring x~x I own a few PSP RPGs which have a "average" turn based system but the way the game and system is presented is so boring I can't play through it.

Some games are better at showing turn based than others, I love how Final Fantasy X and 7 did turn based, the entire Dragon Quest series does it well, Shin Megami Tensei does a great job at turn based as does its various spin offs like Persona, and then the big one being Pokemon. It's not outdated, anyone saying that is full of shit. A core mechanic like that cannot be outdated, the way it is handled and presented can be -but not the mechanic. That's like saying chess is unplayable nowadays since you have to take turns

I think the problem is most gamers can subconciously tell when a turn based system is gameplay Vs when its substituted for gameplay. Back when I was playing RPG maker games, 99% of them that used the default turn based battle system was garbage, but there was one that was extremely good, I forget its name but the main characters were named after colors

Well exactly. The turn based system can easily done bad. RPG Maker has an awful battle system if you don't tweak it. Same goes for a lot of turn based games. Then again that goes for anything, if it isn't executed right then it can be bad :P
