My store has the same ones sitting on the shelves since the black Friday sale went away. How in the hell do they expect to sell any when it is back up at the PS4 price point?

Suppose they're making $50 profit on each system they sell. If they drop the price by just $20, they have to see a boost in sales of 66% just to make the same profit. Obviously, I haven't factored in the profit from game sales, but at the same time, I also haven't used solid numbers for the amount of profit they get per system... and let's be realistic - they could have the dropped the price by half, and it still isn't going to come close to an average 66% boost in sales.

Nintendo's in this for money, not units sold. They aren't going to convince the third parties to come back to the Wii U, so boosting sales won't help them get more games on the system.

And that's why, rather than dropping prices, they're bundling more.

this is an issue for their next console though. Nintendo should be worried about both market share and profit. If the NX launches while the wii u is a dud and everyone is focused on the ps4 and xbox one, people will have a harder time shifting away their focus from sony and microsoft, unless sony and microsoft make mistakes. This is why the wii got lucky, sony released an expensive console and microsoft released a console known for the RROD. This is a reason why the wii u had a hard time selling, because the end of the 7th generation had people focused on sony and microsoft
