I think it would have more content at launch as opposed to new features. Maybe 8 maps, Private Battle and one Ranked Battle mode. Then it would have more customization for inklings such as pants, have better local multiplayer, and include basic features missing from Splatoon 1 such as the ability to leave a lobby once you've joined.
I think Splatoon is going to be a once-per-generation game, and Splatoon 2 wouldn't release until 2018.
