With Nintendo’s next project the NX looming some of us were afraid that the Wii U would be neglected while they worked on the new device. Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima has assured gamers that simply won’t be the case and that they plan to continue providing new software experiences on the Wii U. He claims that the last thing they want to do is abandon Wii U owners while they transition to the NX.

I think Q4 2017/2018 for Wii U successor

Well he is not going to say that they are going to drop Wii u like a stone while they transition to the NX is he? (although going by track record nintendo definately will). Don't worry the NX will be arriving in 2016, It will be in santa's sack and delivered under your christmas tree this time next year.

They've done it often with their consoles, but not with their handhelds (for instance, GBA received games until 2006 despite the DS releasing in 2004, and DS got games until 2012 despite the 3DS releasing early in 2011). And their handhelds have remained strong while their consoles have weakened (Wii excepted). Maybe they've decided to treat their consoles more like they treat their handhelds.

But mostly, I'm pretty sure NX (at least, as a console) will be releasing in 2017. If NX gets any kind of 2016 release, it'll be a handheld.
