Wii u doesn't even have a blu ray player tho.

I am pretty sure that homebrew can be created to have the Wii U play single layered blurays, like there was homebrew for the Wii to play DVDs. Nintendo uses properitary discs so that they don't have to pay licensing fees. The discs are practically ripoffs of the standard media though.
