| JustBeingReal said: I guess overall the originals will always hold more prestige among those of us who grew up with them. Personally I'm an 80's baby and I hold the original trilogy in my heart along with Gremlins, Goonies, Karate Kid, The Terminator (though I do favor T2 more), Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, The Last Starfighter, The Never Ending Story and many others classic movies. |
I don't really believe the nostalgic explanation. When I see nowaday Karate kid or goonies, even if I feel somewhat nostalgic, I personally really see terribly bad movies. Gremlins and Ghostbuster, never ending story, and back to the future remain kind of fun if you grew up with it, but it's terribly outdated, poor in term of dialogues, acting, plot, significance, and filming. I can't help but see a great movie every time I watch Episode 5, one of the better movie I've ever seen (among thousands). The emotional charge, atmosphere, actor play, dialogues, the philosophical background, roots, cult scenes are there, wether you grew up with it or not, and I believe that's where the prestige come from. I understand someone that grew up 20 years later could not like it, because he just doesn't like it, or because he's used to current movies with impressive FX, massive action, etc., but that's a different topic than prestige.
