Just bear in mind that they're reporting through "Target.com" which means the online store. The US hasn't taken to online shopping like China for example and retail sales on Black Friday are always considerably higher.
So I wouldn't read too much into the statement. Especially when we know that it's likely the PS4 and XB1 have sold better at retail, due to some bundles being out of stock at Target.com. Also it' highly likely that other retailers saw much lower Wii U sales as they didn't carry the $249 bundle.
