To be honest, I like looking at guides in almost every game I play, not only with Zelda. Sometimes it's only for some specific point when I'm lost or stuck, I don't like to use them a lot because I try to avoid spoilers as much as possible.
Nowadays it's different because you can find walkthroughs everywhere but when I was a kid we had nothing like that so being lost in a Zelda game was very common.
I replayed A Link To The Past last month and it took me 15 hours but I remember playing that game with my brother for months. We loved that game, but we were also a bit bad at it and we spent hours wandering around trying to figure out what to do next.
Now that I can look for the solutions on google its easier and less frustrating but back when you couldn't do that it was more rewarding.
I'm planning to play Zelda U without looking at any walkthrough, at least I'll try :P
