What made the great Nintendo games great?

Many tend to think that the Wii days were dark times with the whole focus on waggle and whatnot. And while I did stray from them and look else where, I have to admit they made some pretty great games for the system.

i fully agree on your opinion. i think when nintendo says they want to always innovate some core gamers take it for granted. all innovations are good because when there are less better ones you know what to not to do. and thats how i see nintendo doing things. they discuss and try to innovate something that is interesting and will appeal alot of consumers. but if it doesnt go that way they know what to not do, or change. So i greatly appreciate the focus nintendo has for innovation. Because thet wont try to make the same thing over again. and a good exampke is super mario maker. that will make the nintendo devs to think even harder for what they will do in the next 2D game.
