Why do people want Link to be a girl?

Agreed, I am arguing within the mythos of the universe and unless the prophecy we're basing the hero's choosing off of states "a white, blonde boy will appear to save us all" I don't see an issue with a brunnette.  

Another interesting point is we all call him Link by default, but you can name him in the game.  Why does that not blow up the mythos similarly to allowing a customizable character?  The fact that there are people out there playing as Babyfart the hero of time doesn't seem to be an issue because we're used to it.
