The only difference in bechanics between Uncharted and Gears of War is verticality, platforming and style of melee (one is a quick death and the other is a sequence. Uncharteds cqc system is deeper). They are both coverbased action games based on cinematics, gritty close quarters movement. Many games hve been inspired by Gears and Uncharted this year, including the resurfacing of Tomb Raider....so Tomb Raider would not be the first. No different than God of War learned from Devil May Cry, set standards for the industry and then EA made two clones off of God of War in Dantes Inferno and Star Wars the Force Unleashed.

FYI...Uncharted was originally supposed to be a fantasy RPG until Sony directed Naughty Dog to make a third person action/adventure shooter since Microsoft had their own TPS in the works (which at the time wasnt theirs but they were paying Epic for exclusivity by publishing it.)

Im not saying that the reboot of Tomb Raider is not based on Uncharted. It certanly is.Sure, it has its own things, like more versatility in combat, due to being able to carry different weapons, the exploration and higher focus on puzzles(outside of the "story path"), but all in all, you can see the influence that Uncharted had in the reboot. But that dosent change the fact that Uncharted borrowed alot elements, and general ideas, off from the originals Tomb Raiders, not the reboot ones. And the fact that Uncharted was supposed to be a fantasy RPG is irrelevant to this discution on to wheter a game was influential to it or not, since Uncharted is nowhere close to being a fantasy RPG.

And you forgot to mention a great difference between Gears and Uncharted:The story.Again, not played all of the gears games, but as far as i know, Gears story isnt that remarkable, and i dont hear people praising gears for its story.Uncharted, in other hand, is heavily regarded not only because it has a solid gameplay, but mostly because of its story, setting and cast of characters. And that is a huge difference between the two.

Nowadays, its almost impossible to say a game is fully original.Everyone borrows ideas pre stabilished from past games and franchises. And that includes Uncharted and obviously the reboot of Tomb Raider. The only example that i can think of now of a (almost) completely original game in recent years is minecraft. There is no shame saying your game is based on past successes.

Gears story might not be on par with Uncharted in quality but they are both action based TPS games. Their stories rely heavily on linearity, cinematics and set pieces. Much like I read once on a destructoid post, they said that Tomb Raider is a better Uncharted than Uncharted. It just goes to show how close Tomb Raider is in core mechanics to Uncharted itself in order to modernize itself. Yes, as i've already stated Uncharted learned its platforming and general indiana jones style tropes from Tomb Raider. Tomb Raider was always more about exploration and everyone knows that Sony has a hard on for story. Just saying though...if Uncharted would've followed Tomb Raider in the capacity that Tomb Raider followed Uncharted, the franchise would've been considered a true clone like Dantes Inferno to God of War. It also would've flopped hard.

Watch this comparison video to see what I mean. Tomb Raiders reboot was largely uncharted with a larger exploration environment. I have the next Tomb Raider waiting  as I am replaying Tomb Raider again so I can go from one game to the next fluidly.
