It's not that it's a pointless discussion, it's just that you understand that snatching/buying up studios and IP's can in turn limit the audience/platforms that get said games, especially those that were or are multiplat, for me it becomes a threat because a game franchise I;m invested in or studio suddenly sells only on one console, to be that isn't convenient and actually does matter.
You claim buying IP is objectively better but that's also a subjective realm of discussion since throwing money at something doesn't always guarantee success or quality/sales.
What I'm saying shouldn't be very hard to understand.
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
