It would be more interesting if Mario games actually had story, character development, world building, etc. All they're doing here though is throwing in some assets from Sticker Star, the gameplay is still 100% Mario&Luigi, which is probably for the best considering Sticker Star's was awfulbad. Other crossovers couldn't really be a thing since there's definitely no way to combine say Mario Kart and Mario Golf's gameplay into something that isn't worse than when seperated, and their artstyle and characters are all the same anyway. Sorry not trying to be a downer or anything, it's just anything that has anything to do with Sticker Star gets me like this. =/

Look, if you want your Mario RPG games to have a coherent story, that's one thing, but frankly I find character development and world building to be kind of dirty phrases when it comes to the Mario series. Sonic went for the kind of approach you're advocating starting from around about Sonic Adventure, and look how that series has ended up. Bogged down in nonsense, and with cringy story to boot. I certainly don't find Sonic '06 to be "more interesting" than the original Sonic trilogy - actually quite a lot less!
